Mortlach – 20 Year Old Single Malt (43.4%)

This is a 20 year old single malt from Mortlach, matured entirely in sherry casks. It was unveiled in the middle of 2018 as part of a new Mortlach range, and is bottled at 43.4% ABV. Mortlach has the nickname the Beast of Dufftown, earned by a fruity, full and meaty character that comes from a heavy, sulphury distillate. The nose is dense and rich, with dried fruit, fragrant cedar wood and Moroccan leather. On the palate there is ripe depth and an oily texture, with aromatic fruit, light spice, leather and a slightly bitter edge, and cocoa sits in balance with berry fruit. The finish is full, with hints of liquorice and dried fruit.
