Mortlach 21 Year Old is a 2020 Special Release single malt from Dufftown in Speyside. It was distilled in 1999 and is bottled at 56.9% ABV, with 7,692 bottles produced worldwide.
The whisky was matured in small batches, then finished in freshly toasted Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso-seasoned casks.
The nose has intense dried fruit and buttered scones, perhaps with lime marmalade, turning lightly salty and meatier. The palate is creamy, sweet with dried fruit, then salty with a kick of chilli, and dry with plenty of tannin. The finish is very long and warming.
