Mortlach 30 Year Old is a single cask Speyside single malt, distilled in 1992 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as cask 76.151, under the name Cloves Studded in a Honey Glazed Ham.
The whisky was matured in a single bourbon barrel, then finished in a first-fill Oloroso sherry hogshead. The release, in 2023, is 167 bottles in 70cl.
The Society's notes describe coffee and cloves on the nose, with beef jerky, pencil shavings and maple syrup on bacon. The palate brings peppercorns, pickles and black pudding in wood smoke, and water opens up chamomile, caramel, camphor, molasses and prunes.
