This is a 31 year old Mortlach from Speyside, distilled in 1992 and bottled in 2024 by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as cask 76.153, named 'A Chair For Contemplation'. It comes from a single first fill bourbon hogshead and 218 bottles were produced.
The nose is rich, with toffee, damson jam, fennel seeds, tonka beans and red wine. The palate brings butter-fried barley, salted beeswax caramel and honeyed clotted cream, with a touch of allspice and Jamaican rum. Water adds pistachio cake, olive oil, malt loaf and apricot jam.
