Mortlach Rare Old is a single malt from the Mortlach distillery in Dufftown, bottled at 43.4% and part of the distillery's 2.81 series. Mortlach has three wash stills and three spirit stills, and each spirit still has a different shape, so the spirit from each differs slightly. The spirits are blended into one batch that is distilled 2.81 times on average, rather than twice or three times. Mortlach was founded in 1823 by James Findlater and was the first legal distillery in Dufftown. Johnnie Walker bought it in 1923, and it is now owned by Diageo.
