This is Mortlach Special Release 2022, a single malt bottled at 57.8% ABV. It was finished in a combination of virgin oak, tawny port and red Muscat wine casks, which deepened its amber colour.
Mortlach is distilled 2.81 times in six stills.
The nose is grapes and red wine with spicy sausage and mineral notes. On the palate it is sweetly fruity rather than meaty, with dry spice and layers of ginger. The finish is long, with fruit and black pepper and a warming glow, leaving the palate dry.
