Mortlach – Special Release 2023 The Katana's Edge (58%)

Mortlach Special Release 2023, called The Katana's Edge, is a Speyside single malt bottled at its natural cask strength of 58% ABV. It belongs to the Diageo Special Releases 2023 collection, Spirited Xchange. Part of the whisky was matured in ex-Kanosuke Japanese whisky casks, chosen to bring out Mortlach's sweet and spicy character. The remainder was matured in pinot noir casks to balance that sweetness. The nose is fruity, spicy and savoury, with orange peel, hung meat, clove and pepper. The palate is sweet and spicy, fairly full with a sharp edge, and the finish is long and spicy.
