Nikka Yoichi is a Japanese single malt from Hokkaido, bottled at 45% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The distillery was built in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, founder of Nikka.
The spirit is distilled in coal-fired pot stills and matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks. It is a peated malt with a coastal character.
The nose is earthy and maritime, with coal smoke, salted caramel, orchard fruit and a hint of sea spray. The palate shows toasted oak, charred pear, citrus zest and peat. The finish is long and warming, salty and smoky.
