Nikka Yoichi is a single malt from the Yoichi distillery on Hokkaido, Japan, the first distillery Masataka Taketsuru built for Nikka, in 1934. He chose the site for its similarity to the Scotland where he learned whisky making.
The malt is made from 100% malted barley, distilled by direct coal firing and aged in ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
It is described as having pleasant sweet and smoky notes, with a briny hint from the sea breeze during ageing.
