This is the 2022 Special Release of Oban 10 Year Old, a Scottish single malt bottled at a natural cask strength of 57.1% in a 70cl bottle.
After its initial maturation it spent a second period in ex-sherry casks and casks seasoned with Amontillado sherry.
The nose is soft and without prickle, with sea salt crystals, edible seaweed and fresh sea air, then light smoke and a touch of lemon. On the palate it is creamy, with winey fruit, sweet violet and spiced plum, and a salty note that turns to chilli. The finish is fairly long and surprisingly spicy. A little water softens the spice.
