This is the Oban 12 Year Old from the Diageo Special Releases of 2021, matured in freshly charred American oak casks. That year's theme was Legends Untold, and the Oban label shows the Twin Foxes, one born in light and the other in shadow.
The nose is maritime, with seaweed, iodine and fine wisps of smoke. The palate is surprisingly weighty, with peppery heat and clove spice, and juicy fresh fruit and creamy vanilla behind. The finish is long, with vanilla returning.
