This is the 2024 Diageo Special Release Oban, a Highlands single malt bottled at 58% ABV. Diageo describes it as a coastal orchard.
It matured in heavily charred American oak casks and was finished in ex-Oloroso sherry casks.
The nose has freshly cut oak with sweet vanilla and a maritime hint of smoke, like a distant beach bonfire. The palate is soft and creamy, with baked apple, citrus and vanilla, a pinch of sea salt and pepper behind, then gentle oak. The finish is medium in length and warming, with spicy and sweet oak and smoke drifting on a coastal wind.
