This is Oban 12 Years Old, a Scotch single malt from the 2021 Special Release, in a 70cl bottle at 56.2% ABV.
The nose is soft, led by a maritime note of crisp edible seaweed, crystal salt and coarse black pepper, with hints of lightly smoked white fish. A drop of water brings light olive oil to the front. On the palate it is full-bodied, fruity and gently citrus-sweet, with a pinch of salt in the middle and a lasting but never overwhelming spice from freshly charred casks.
The finish is fairly long and peppery, and water adds a soft warmth to the aftertaste.
