Oban 15 Year Old Port Cask Finish is a limited annual release from Oban Distillery in the Western Highlands of Scotland, founded in 1794. It is a 15 year old single malt given a secondary maturation in port casks.
The port finish adds dark berry sweetness and wine richness to the distillery's coastal character of sea salt, heather and light smoke. The distillery sits hemmed in by the town on three sides and sea cliffs on the fourth, which keeps production small.
The nose is coastal and fruited, with sea salt, dark berry, heather, light smoke and vanilla. The palate brings port-cask dark fruit, brine, malt sweetness and warming spice. The finish is long, with lingering port sweetness, coastal smoke and dried fruit.
