Ohishi Sakura Cherrywood Whisky (75cl, 42.7%)

Ohishi Sakura Cherrywood is a Japanese whisky from Ohishi Distillery, the distillery closest to the headwaters of the Kuma River. It grows 30% of its rice in its own fields and combines it with mochi rice from Kumamoto Prefecture. This batch was matured in sherry casks and then finished for 27 months in sakura, or cherry blossom, wood. The cherry trees used for the casks are grown locally in Kumamoto. It is bottled at 85.4 proof. Mild oak spice and crème brûlée lead, and the finish lingers pleasantly on the palate.
