This is a 15 year old peated Speyside single malt from the Tomintoul distillery, released under the Old Ballantruan name in mid-2018. It was matured entirely in American oak ex-bourbon casks and is bottled at 50% ABV without chill-filtration, in a 70cl bottle.
Old Ballantruan takes its name from the Ballantruan spring, which supplies the distillery's water.
The nose is smoky and intense, with grilled meats, bell pepper, green banana, eucalyptus and maple sweetness. The palate brings grilled fennel, pak choi, cured meats, fruit cake, liquorice, black olives and cinnamon. The finish is warming and long, ending in a sweet, smoky, aniseed linger.
