Old Carter Batch 1 is a Straight Kentucky Whiskey from Mark and Sherri Carter, released in October 2020 and bottled in Bardstown, Kentucky at barrel strength, 117.5 proof (58.75%), without chill filtration.
It is distilled from a bourbon mash bill but aged in used oak barrels rather than new charred oak, which is why it cannot be called bourbon. The batch is a blend of 8 barrels, drawn into 1,854 bottles, each labelled by hand by Sherri.
The nose offers iced orange pound cake, purple clover, cornbread and sorghum butter, with maple and dusty oak. The palate is round yet spicy, with poached stone fruit, cream soda, cinnamon and salted pistachio. The finish is long and warm.
