Old Forester 100 Proof Straight Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whisky, bottled at 50% in a 750ml bottle. It is the first rye from the brand that George Garvin Brown founded in 1870, when he became the first to seal bourbon in glass bottles.
The recipe was acquired in 1940 by Owsley Brown I. The mash bill is 65% rye, 20% malted barley and 15% corn, and the high barley content allows a fully natural fermentation. Old Forester uses its own yeast strain.
The nose is brown sugar and magnolia blossom with soft sassafras and candied lemon. Black pepper and cinnamon lead the palate, with dried dill and baked apple, and the finish is dry.
