Old Forester – Rye 100 Proof (50%)

Old Forester Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whisky bottled at 100 proof, or 50% ABV. It was the first rye from Old Forester, the brand founded by George Garvin Brown, who in 1870 began selling bourbon sealed in glass bottles. The recipe was acquired in 1940 by Owsley Brown I. The mash bill is 65% rye, 20% malted barley and 15% corn. The high share of malted barley allows a fully natural fermentation without added enzymes, and gives a floral character that sits against the brisk spice of the rye. Old Forester uses its own yeast strain and distils every drop itself.
