This is the 2026 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, an 11-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 48.5% ABV (97 proof) in a 70cl bottle. The annual release honours the company's founder, George Garvin Brown.
The whiskey went into new charred oak barrels in 2015 and matured there until 2026. Old Forester presents itself as America's first bottled bourbon, made in Louisville since 1870.
The nose brings vanilla bean, toasted oak, dark caramel and dried orange peel with subtle baking spices. On the palate there is honeyed sweetness, charred oak, dark chocolate, crystallised ginger and roasted almonds. The finish is long and warming, with oak, vanilla custard, tobacco leaf and a little cinnamon.
