Ondjaba The Namibian Whiskey Bourbon & Sherry Style Finish (70cl, 51%)

Ondjaba is a Namibian triple grain whiskey made by Erongo Mountain Winery in Omaruru, bottled at 51% in a 70cl bottle. This edition is matured in red wine casks, then divided, with one half finished in bourbon casks and the other in sherry-style casks. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring. The grains include local mahangu, a millet, and the grain is smoked with treated elephant dung, used in the way peat is elsewhere. Ondjaba means elephant in the Ovambo language. The nose is rich, with dried fruit, vanilla, caramel and toasted oak. The palate brings dark fruit, honey and caramel, then spice, chocolate and soft oak. The finish is long and warming, with dried-fruit sweetness and vanilla.
