Peerless Small Batch is a Kentucky straight bourbon, four years old and bottled at barrel strength: 55.3%, or 107 proof, in a 750ml bottle. It is made with a sweet mash rather than a sour mash, and it is non-chill filtered.
The nose combines pipe tobacco, ripe summer fruit and seasoned oak, with sweet caramel and butterscotch. A heavy dose of caramel meets savoury tobacco on the palate.
The finish carries rye spice that builds from the palate, balanced by caramel, before ripe fruit appears and a little tobacco and butterscotch return.
