Pierde Almas Espadín Mezcal

Pierde Almas Espadín is a small-batch, artisan mezcal made in Oaxaca, southern Mexico, from 100% naturally fermented agave. The Espadín is made at San Juan del Rio, with a collective of five maestros. The agave hearts are baked in underground earthen pits over river rocks heated with fallen timber, covered with earth and left to cook slowly for three days. They are milled under a stone wheel, fermented slowly without chemicals and distilled in a wood-fired copper alembic. Pierde Almas is run by the Sánchez Altamirano family, with Don Fausto as the original maestro mezcalero and his son now in charge.
