This is a 29 year old single malt from Pittyvaich, a Speyside distillery that has since closed, released as part of the Diageo Special Releases. It was distilled in 1989 and bottled at full cask strength, 51%, with no colour adjustment.
The whisky was matured in two stages, in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks, and it is the only double-matured Pittyvaich to have been released.
The nose combines malty notes with spice from the cask and clean, lightly fruity hints. The palate is powerful and intense, yet keeps a sense of lightness and elegance. The finish lasts for many minutes.
