Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2013 is a peated single malt made from barley grown on Islay and matured in American oak. The island-grown barley comes through more distinctly here, bringing the peach and apple typical of the Port Charlotte spirit.
The nose is earthy, with tarred peat smoke, lemon, peach and green grapes, plus vanilla pods, creamed coconut and chocolate from the oak. On the palate the smoke is light, closer to tar and charcoal than to medicinal phenols, alongside salted caramel, apple sauce, lemon drops and white pepper. The finish has a floral, marine sea-breeze edge.
