Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2014 is a 7 year old single malt bottled at 50% and 40 PPM. It is made entirely from Islay-grown Concerto and Propino barley, harvested for the 2014 vintage on eight local farms within 15 miles of the distillery.
The whisky matured mostly in first-fill bourbon casks (84%), with 8% in second-fill wine casks.
The nose combines malted digestive biscuit, peat embers, vanilla, honey and toffee, later turning to citrus zest and ripe melon. The palate brings citrus, ripe fruit, gentle peat smoke and toasted oak, with coconut and marzipan. The finish is soft stone fruit with a little dry grill smoke.
