Port Charlotte PMC: 01 is a heavily peated Islay single malt, the sixth release in the Cask Exploration series. It was distilled in 2013 and bottled at 54.5% ABV.
The whisky spent its first four years in first-fill bourbon casks. In 2017 it was moved into Pomerol wine casks for a further five years, the first time Port Charlotte spirit has been matured in Pomerol casks.
The nose offers peat smoke and red fruits, stewed pear, melon, rose and geranium, with clove, ginger and a touch of marzipan. The palate pairs malt sugar and peat with blackberry, plum and aged leather. The finish is marine and lemony, with peat lingering.
