Port Ellen – 1979 24 Year Old Special Releases 2003 3rd Release (70cl, 57.3%)

An old bottle of Port Ellen, an Islay single malt distilled in 1979 and released in 2003 at 24 years old as the third Port Ellen in owner Diageo's Special Releases series. It comes in a 70cl bottle at a natural cask strength of 57.3%. The release was a small batch of casks from the 1979 vintage, in an edition of 9000 bottles. It is described as a mix of grapefruit, lemon cream, chargrilled kippers and salted caramel, with a steely, austere edge. A drop of water is said to improve it.
