This is a 42-year-old Islay single malt from Gordon & MacPhail's Recollection Series. Port Ellen distillery closed in 1983. This whisky was distilled in 1981, matured in refill sherry butt 290 and bottled in 2023 at 52.5% ABV.
The nose offers peat smoke, sea air and salt with raisins, dark fruit, orange peel and leather. On the palate it is powerful, with smoke, dried fruit, chocolate, spice and sherried oak. The finish is exceptionally long, dry and maritime, with smoke, dark fruit and old wood.
