This is a 42 year old Islay single malt from Port Ellen, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for its Private Collection. It was distilled in 1981, matured in a refill sherry butt and bottled on 6 February 2023 at 52.5%, producing 181 bottles in 70cl size.
It is not chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The nose brings dark chocolate, ginger and cinnamon alongside blackcurrant, Medjool date and vanilla. On the palate come fruit cake and baked apple with sweet smoke, peanut brittle, dark cherry and black pepper. The finish is long and full, with dried fruit and embers of a bonfire.
