This Port Ellen was distilled in 1983, the year the Islay distillery closed, and matured for 33 years in a single bourbon hogshead, cask 16055. Malts of Scotland bottled it in 2016 at a natural cask strength of 57.1% ABV.
The release is made up of 249 numbered bottles. The whisky keeps the coastal, smoky character associated with Port Ellen.
It is described as combining maritime peat smoke with citrus, vanilla, oak and a subtle sweetness.
