Port Ellen 25 Year Old is the fifth official Port Ellen release, issued in 2005 as part of the annual Diageo Special Releases series. It is an Islay single malt distilled in 1979 and bottled at a natural cask strength of 57.4%, in an edition of 5,280 bottles in 70cl.
The nose is creamy peat smoke with creosote, crispy fish skin, lime pickle and smoked leather, with a hint of a trawler in the harbour. On the palate come peat-smoked apple cores, poached pears, sooty anise and green herbs. The finish is very long, with more sooty smoke, white pepper, lime and elderflower.
