Port Ellen 42 Year Old 1981/2023 - Gordon & MacPhail - The Recollection Series #2 - Refill Sherry Butt #290

This is a 42 year old Islay single malt from Port Ellen, distilled on 26 January 1981. It matured in a refill sherry butt, cask 290, and was bottled in February 2023 by Gordon & MacPhail as part of The Recollection series. The cask yielded 181 bottles. The nose combines firm peat smoke with blackberries, redcurrants and dates, along with oak, roasted nuts and a hint of orange. On the palate it is maritime, with seaweed and a dense texture of raspberries and sultanas, wrapped in smoke. The finish is long, smoke and berry sweetness running together.
