Red Comyn is a twelve-year-old Speyside single malt bottled by Claxton's. It matured in bourbon casks and was then finished in hand-selected ruby port casks from Portugal, which give it a reddish tint and bring out fresh berry fruit.
The name recalls John 'The Red' Comyn, a Scottish rival to Robert the Bruce for the throne. His family once owned a castle on the present Dalswinton Estate, where Claxton's keeps its maturation warehouses. The whisky is bottled at 48%, non-chill-filtered and without added colouring.
Strawberries and raspberries mingle on the nose with delicate flowers and light vanilla. The palate is creamy and sweet, with barley sugar, gentle ginger, peach and a little oak. The finish stays creamy, with lingering berry fruit and a touch of malt.
