The Desert Jewel is the eighth release in Royal Salute's Polo Collection, which began in 2017. This 21 year old blended Scotch was created by Master Blender Emeritus Sandy Hyslop and fully finished in PX sherry casks, which add honeyed dried fruit and warming spice.
The design draws on Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The gift box shows desert landscapes, souks and skyscrapers, and the turquoise flagon takes its colour from the waters around the two cities.
The nose brings cranberries, glazed cherries, stewed apples, cinnamon buns and almond praline. Mango, blood orange, dates, treacle tart and marzipan lead the palate. The finish is rich and velvety, with ginger spice.
