Safe Haven is a Ledaig, the heavily peated malt of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, distilled in 2014 and bottled in spring 2023 at eight years old. Murray McDavid issued 2,303 bottles in its Mystery Malt series, at 50% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
After a bourbon hogshead, the whisky spent its last 18 months in first-fill Justino's Madeira casks. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour. Ledaig, the distillery's original name, means Safe Haven.
Mango, kiwi and pineapple meet a beach barbecue and oak on the nose. The palate is oily, with sweet smoke, toffee and juicy apple. The finish brings warm embers, lavender, nectarine and pineapple.
