Sagamore Spirit – Reserve Rum Cask Rye Whiskey (75cl, 49%)

This is a rye whiskey from the Sagamore Spirit Reserve Series, the second release finished in rum casks. Straight ryes of five and six years old were matured in American oak, then given a further 10 months in rum barrels from South America and Jamaica before being blended back together. It is bottled at 49% ABV. The Jamaican barrels are described as adding ripe banana and pineapple, while the South American barrels bring vanilla and brûléed sugar alongside the spice of the rye. Tasting notes mention demerara sugar, ripe banana, passion fruit, pineapple, vanilla, peanut brittle and cinnamon bark, with a peppery finish.
