Sagamore Spirit Rye Double Oak is a Maryland rye whiskey bottled at 48.6% in a 70cl bottle. It is aged first in new charred American oak barrels, then finished in toasted wave-stave barrels.
The wave-stave barrels have grooves cut into the wood to increase contact with the whiskey and draw out more oak character. This second maturation adds sweetness and texture.
The nose has toasted caramel, vanilla cream, cocoa, baking spices and charred oak. The palate is dense, with toasted wood, brown sugar, toffee, cinnamon, dark chocolate and warm rye spice. The finish is long and warm, with caramelised oak, cocoa and sweet spice.
