Vanguard is a New Zealand single malt from Scapegrace, matured for three years in new 200-litre French oak casks and bottled at 46%. It is made with Laureate barley grown in New Zealand, and is non-chill-filtered with no added colour. Because the oak is new, it carries no earlier wine or spirit character.
The style is fruity and creamy, with pear, vanilla cream and Anzac biscuit notes of oats and coconut.
Poached pear and soft vanilla cream lead the nose. The palate is silky and round, with Anzac biscuit, oats, caramel and a little coconut. The finish is long and rich, with malt, vanilla, caramel and toasted oats, ending dry.
