Sierra Norte Yellow Corn is a Mexican single-barrel whiskey distilled in Oaxaca from native yellow heirloom corn. It is bottled at 45% ABV in a 750ml bottle, with the barrel and bottle numbers on the label.
The mash is 85% corn and 15% malted barley, openly fermented with natural yeast and double distilled in pot stills at Scorpion Mezcal in San Agustin de las Juntas, under master distiller Douglas French. The whiskey spends a minimum of two years in French oak.
Tasting notes describe warm cornbread, honey and vanilla bean on the nose, butterscotch and toasted corn on the palate, and a medium-long finish of honey and dry oak.
