Smoky Scot is a heavily peated Islay single malt from Caol Ila, aged for five years in oak casks that previously held bourbon. Aceo Limited bottles it independently at 46% in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtration or added colour.
Smoke, iodine, seaweed and tar give it a maritime character. The nose brings bonfire ash, salty sea air and old wood, with floral and malty notes behind. The palate opens with peat smoke and iodine, then lemon peel and medicinal smoke, with a growing peppery warmth. The long, slightly oily finish carries toasted sunflower seeds, malt and a touch of menthol, ending dry and ashy.
