Spanish Splendour is a 10 year old Highland single malt from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, bottled in 2024 at 50% ABV. It is the latest small-batch release in the Society's non-standard Heresy series, and unusual for that series in being a single malt rather than a blended malt.
It matured in refill bourbon and first fill oloroso hogsheads, in both Spanish and American oak.
The nose offers chocolate truffles, rum-soaked raisins, butterscotch sauce and prunes stewed in port. On the palate come Seville orange cake with forest honey, a slightly salty note, and custard with prunes, with citrus and cinnamon after a drop of water.
