A 12 year old Speyburn distilled in 2008 and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in its Connoisseurs Choice range. It was matured in a single sherry butt and bottled at 60.3% ABV in a 70cl bottle, with 656 bottles produced.
Speyburn opened in 1897 and was designed by Charles Doig, who gave it a pagoda roof over the kiln. Gordon & MacPhail was founded in Elgin in 1895.
The nose has rich sherry, cinnamon, lemon zest, toasted almonds, sultanas and Medjool dates. On the palate are stewed red berries, blood orange peel, fruitcake, dark honey and red apple. The medium-bodied finish is long, with fruit and treacle toffee.
