A 44 year old Speyside single malt from Speyburn, distilled in 1977 and bottled in 2021 by Gordon & MacPhail for its Private Collection. It comes from a single refill sherry butt, which yielded 414 bottles at 59.9% ABV.
Private Collection whiskies are personally selected by members of the Urquhart family, who have owned Gordon & MacPhail for four generations.
The nose is subtle, with sherry aromas, walnut, ginger and cocoa powder. The palate is sweet with honey, medjool dates and demerara sugar, then Seville orange peel and autumnal spices. The finish is long, with red apple, black pepper and menthol.
