This is the 2020 release of Springbank 21 Year Old, a Campbeltown single malt bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. The batch was drawn from a mix of casks: 30% bourbon, 30% rum, 25% sherry and 15% port, and 3,300 bottles were filled.
The nose is rich and sweet, with demerara sugar, treacle, orange rind and milk chocolate. The palate is oily and mouth-coating, with dunnage warehouse and coastal notes, light peat and oaky tannins, and it is less sweet than the nose suggests. The finish is long, with raisins from the port and sherry casks, then roasted coffee beans and a lasting note of bung cloth.
