This Springbank Local Barley is a vintage single malt from Campbeltown, distilled in July 2009 from local Belgravia barley. It matured for nine years, 20% in ex-sherry casks and 80% in ex-bourbon casks, and was bottled in October 2018 at cask strength, 57.7%. It is non-chill-filtered and uncoloured, and 9,700 bottles were filled.
Local Barley releases vary in cask make-up from batch to batch and are always lightly smoky.
The nose offers biscuit, malt, freshly ground nutmeg, peat spice and salted peanuts. Honey, biscuits, apricot and quince come on the palate with a hint of smoke, and the long finish brings macadamia nuts, pear, sultanas and a little salty coastal air.
