Stauning – Bastard Danish Rye Whisky

Stauning Bastard is a Danish rye whisky made entirely from local ingredients. The grain is malted on the floor at the distillery and double-distilled in flame-heated pot stills. It spent three years in new, toasted virgin American oak casks, then six months in old mezcal casks from Oro de Oaxaca in Mexico. That final stage is the idea behind the name, a cross between the North Sea and the Mexican desert. The aftertaste is described as gentle and exotic.
