Bastard is a Danish rye whisky from Stauning, a distillery founded in 2005. It is made from 51% rye and 49% barley, aged for 3 years in new American oak and then finished for about six months in ex-mezcal casks. The finish gives it herbal, smoky character. It comes in a 70cl bottle.
The label was drawn by the Danish tattoo artist Thit Hansgaard and shows a wolf breathing flames, a nod to the agave plant.
The nose offers tobacco, sultanas and oat biscuits. The palate is soft and smoky with vanilla, cinnamon and oak, and the finish is long and smoky.
