Stranahan's Sherry Cask is an American whisky made from 100% malted barley and double-distilled. It spent four years in new American white oak barrels before moving to Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry barrels from southern Spain for a cask finish.
The two sherry styles each play a part: the PX barrels add chocolate, coffee and raisin, while the Oloroso barrels bring caramel, nutty and fruity flavours.
The nose offers raisins, figs, dates, honey, grape syrup, jam and candied fruit. On the palate come honey, Montmorency cherry, blackcurrant and fig, with a nutty brine and walnut. The finish is buttery caramel, whipped cream, brown sugar and smoked cayenne.
