Strathclyde – 1993 31 Year Old The Ghosts of Dumbarton Castle Samhain Series (54.6%)

This is a 31 year old single grain whisky from Strathclyde, distilled in 1993 and bottled at 54.6% ABV. It belongs to the Samhain Series, in an edition called The Ghosts of Dumbarton Castle. It matured in a refill Oloroso hogshead, and 145 bottles were filled. Each whisky in the series is tied to a local legend, with labels drawn by Edinburgh artist and designer Steven Shand. This one draws on the tales of Dumbarton Rock, said to be haunted by the warriors who died defending it. The nose offers toffee apples, candyfloss, fresh hay and nutmeg. The palate is soft and buttery, with pancakes and syrup, toasted coconut and spiced oak. The finish is long, with peanut brittle and glacé cherries.
